Retro or retro-inspired sunglasses may be a key fall update but I can't bring myself to buy a pair of Wayfarers and look like every hipster walking the streets of San Francisco. That said, I still think they look cute. Local San Francisco artist Maya Hayuk offers an alternative with limited edition hand-painted Ray Bans' Wayfarers exclusive to Sunglass Hut. The glasses will retail for $140 (same as the ubiquitous hipster model) with 50% of the proceeds going to OneSight, a family of charitable programs dedicated to improving vision for those in need worldwide, through outreach, research and education. Fifty pairs of the one-of-a-kind glasses will be available here in San Francisco beginning next Monday.
If you can break away from your computer on November 30 (aka Cyber Monday), Sunglass Hut is hosting a fête where Maya will create an in-store installation in the window of the San Francisco store at 170 Geary Street in San Francisco from 1 -4 PM - food and drinks included. The store will also have one of her murals on display which will later be auctioned off, also in support of OneSight.
