Stella McCartney presented her Spring 2009 designs at a garden party she hosted at the Jefferson Market Garden in Greenwich Village on Tuesday. The designer recently announced she would show one show per season, eliminating resort and pre-fall collections. I am not sure why she decided to simplify but I applaud the move. The only value I find in these two "seasons" is a break from spending - although I do admit I enjoy the fanfare of Chanel Cruise. I think the idea of resort and pre-season collections are outdated because of the huge carbon footprint they leave behind. Also - people just don't shop like that anymore. Good move Stella! Now on to the collection. Stella said her aim for the collection was "To take what I do and do it better". That she did - cool tailored blazers, minidresses, skinny pants and billowy tops - all signature Stella. She also featured fuller pants - they were a little MC Hammer for my taste, but it is nice to see her shake things up a bit. I really like the track-inspired pants with the blue stripe.
