Advertising Age reports today that Saks Fifth Avenue will wrap New York City tour buses with its graphic new "Want It" campaign and shuttle tourists between its flagship store and the upper east side , where they will receive free admission to museums. The promotional campaign, which is being handled in house, is part of a multi-tiered effort that ranges from print ads to the opportunity for nine or 10 customers t0 accompany Saks' chairman-CEO, Steve Sadove, to the New York Stock Exchange for the ringing of the closing bell on April 10. My initial reaction was Do people who ride tour buses even shop at Saks? (I know, I know - I am a snob). However, I think this is a smart campaign to leverage the influx of tourists visiting the states to take advantage of the dollar. I'm quite impressed with Saks recent promotional efforts. The company has turned out some creative campaigns including the genius move to give the Manhattan Shoe Salon its own zip code.
