I fell in love with this look when I saw it on the Burberry Prorsum runway. I've been wearing my long, black leather gloves with my cape and miu miu (circa 2003) jacket with elbow length sleeves. I also plan to wear them with sleeveless cocktail dresses for the holidays. I found my gloves at Barneys - but they are everwhere this season. Photo credit: Vogue.
Sunday's New York Times story Jolly and Green, With an Agenda is an excellent commentary on conscientious consumerism but what really caught my eye was an ad for winter boots by luxury label La Canadienne on the next page. The headline reads: make a healthy choice for your feet and the environment. The ad's copy describes the boots as non toxic and lead free, made in a healthy environment by workers in a free society. Ok - I know it sounds selfish but what I really want to know is will they keep my feet warm?
WWD reported on British retailer Topshop’s plan for America-wide expansion today. The first Topshop store is slated to open on this side of the pond in Manhattan in September. Topshop’s owner Sir Philip Green said he plans to open other flagship stores on the West Coast and in Las Vegas, Miami and Boston. When I read about great stores opening on our coast they usually end up in LA (Stella, Diane, Intermix and Sigerson Morrison to name a few). Therefore let me formally state my plea - please open here first! We have better style than our southern sister. I hate to ruffle feathers – but seriously, it is true.
For years I have been flying to London and taking the Chunnel to Paris. It’s cheaper than flying direct and I get to stay a night on each end in London. BONUS! Now that Eurostar has switched its terminus from Waterloo to St. Pancras International there are even more reasons to go this route. The new station has far better fuel options with a 90-meter champagne bar, Paul for sandwiches, a brasserie and a pub. There are 60 shops including a Boots and a Marks & Spencer’s to pass the time. And this, my friends, is reason 1.785 million why I need to get to Paris very soon (like in the next few months). London to Paris is now only 2.15 minutes. Kachow!
